The Selfie Strategy Made Everyone Happy!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We exhibited our booth for two days during the session days<\/strong>, and\u2026 I\u2019d say it was a huge success!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As expected, the selfie campaign<\/strong> was very well received<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I figured that naturally outgoing, party-loving types would have no problem with the selfie campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I\u2019m a Japanese Ultra-Shy Guy<\/strong>, so no matter how exciting the event is, I normally can\u2019t<\/strong> bring myself to say something as socially advanced as, “Let\u2019s take a selfie together!”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I\u2019m sure there were attendees who felt the same way\u2014people who might want<\/strong> to take a photo but wouldn\u2019t initiate it themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s why this approach worked so well. After all, if you\u2019re attending a big event like this, you\u2019d probably appreciate having a commemorative photo. It becomes a great memory for both sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, despite the fact that I can barely speak English<\/strong>, I simply approached people checking out the bottle holder swag sign and said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Hello, this is selfie Campaign. Take photo, post to social media, and get this one! Let’s take selfie with me!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And guess what? Everyone smiled and happily took a selfie with me!<\/strong> \ud83c\udf89<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Operation Was a Bit of a Failure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Small Mishap<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first, I planned to have attendees scan a QR code<\/strong> and share the URL<\/strong> they accessed. The idea was that if someone became interested in our product at the event but forgot to ask about it, they could easily find the product info later by checking the campaign URL in their own post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, this approach had several issues:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Sharing a URL automatically attaches a link preview (OGP),<\/strong> but when that happens, they can\u2019t attach their selfie<\/strong> unless they manually remove the link preview.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Too many steps.<\/strong> Using a hashtag<\/strong> would have been much simpler.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    While hashtags have the drawback of not allowing follow-ups on private posts<\/strong>, I still went with the QR code and URL-sharing method. But in reality, asking people to go through all these extra steps was just too much hassle<\/strong>. I should have stuck to hashtags only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To make things worse, we didn\u2019t write the campaign hashtag anywhere.<\/strong> So in the end, every time we took a photo, our staff had to manually type in the hashtag<\/strong> for each post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    At first, when people casually approached our booth, I would ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    “Are you interested in our products or swag?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Surprisingly, many of them answered “Product”<\/strong>, so I took the opportunity to introduce VK AB Testing<\/strong> using a slide presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    At first, people would normally listen to the explanation of how it works. But when I showed them the screens displaying impressions, clicks, and click rates<\/strong>, they would say, “Oh! Nice!!”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Of course, during the Opening Remarks<\/strong> on the first day and Matt\u2019s session + Closing Remarks<\/strong>, the booth was empty\u2014because, well, everyone was at those sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    But aside from that, we had a steady stream of visitors almost the entire time!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
