WordCamp Malaysia 2023 Recap: Thanks for Visiting the Vektor Booth!

Hello there! We are Vektor, a Japanese company specializing in WordPress themes and plugins. We had the pleasure of participating as sponsors in WordCamp Malaysia 2023, which took place on September 8th and 9th. In this article, we’re excited to share the event recap with you.

Event Background

This event marked a significant milestone as it was the first WordCamp Malaysia since WordCamp Kuala Lumpur 2019, and the first to carry the name “WordCamp Malaysia.” It gathered WordPress enthusiasts from Malaysia and beyond, making it an exciting reunion after a four-year hiatus.

Julian Song, who previously served as the Design Team Organizer for WordCamp Asia 2023 held in Bangkok, took on the role of Lead Organizer of WordCamp Malaysia. He brought his experience and passion from WordCamp Asia to benefit the local WordPress community in Malaysia.

Venue Highlights

The event occurred at CNICC (Cheras North International Convention Centre), a convention center in the southeast part of Kuala Lumpur. It boasts a convenient location close to the city center with excellent transportation access. Venue Details

Contributor Day

Contributor Day was well attended despite being a weekday. Chiaki from Vektor was assigned as Polyglot’s table lead the day before and prepared as best as she could despite her lack of sleep. The Polyglots table attracted participants from Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and Japan, as well as Malaysia. Here alone, we could see that WordPress is being used in multiple languages. We would be happy if we could help even a little with the first step of the contribution of the participants at the table.

Session Day

Opening Remarks

The second day of the event was session day. Sponsors, speakers, and participants gathered in Hall 1, where opening remarks were made in an enthusiastic atmosphere.

Food & Drinks

Various Malaysian dishes were served buffet-style in the lobby of the venue. Coffee refills were also available, making for a pleasant two days.

Sessions

The list of speakers at this year’s Word Camp Malaysia was truly a great representation of the diversity of Asia. Not only from Malaysia, but several other countries, and many men as well as many women speakers shared their knowledge and experiences. Chiaki from Vektor also shared her experiences about her career and community.
We believe that many attendees were inspired in various ways by the sessions. We hope everyone will gain more from their future use of WordPress and their involvement with the community.

Sponsor’s Booth

This time in Malaysia, we ran a sponsor booth for the first time overseas. We introduced our no-code search form add-on plugin “VK Filter Search” to the attendees.

Our booth was located between Rooms 1 and 2 and was visited by many attendees who changed rooms during breaks. We welcomed everyone with Japanese snacks. We were able to distribute most of the many flyers we had prepared.

We received many questions about the compatibility of our plugin with WooCommerce. Of course it is compatible, so please feel free to try it! If you have any problems, please let us know and we will take care of it as soon as possible.

Vektor Swag Giveaway

We carried Vektor’s original swags from Japan and did give-away activities. Thank you to everyone who participated! Congratulations to our lucky winners, Uzma, Bayes, and Leo Leoung!
